The portrait was taken at an historic portrait gathering on June 6, 1999 on Strivers Row in Harlem, New York in the spirit of the "A Great Day In Harlem" jazz photo by Art Kane (1958). Groups represented and solo artists include, The Chantels (a rare recent gathering of original group members), The Willows, The Solitaires, The Cadillacs, The 5 Discs, The Decoys, Baby Washington, The Jewels (female), The Velons, Richard Blandon's Dubs, The Teenagers (Herman Santiago and Jimmy Merchant), Jimmy Castor, Velvet Angels, Neons, Valentines, Rose Marie McCoy (songwriter), The Clickettes, The Jesters, The Rainbows, The Bobbettes, 5 Delights, The Twilighters, Dean Barlow and The Crickets, Lillian Leach & The Mellows, The Wrens, The Chimes, The Bop Chords, Earl Lewis & The Channels, The Orioles, The Marquees, The Fi-Tones, Jimmy Jones, The Harptones, The Cleftones and many many more. Some of these legends have gone on to sing with the heavenly "doowop choir".
The portrait is now part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution and The Moorland-Spingarn Research Center in Washington, DC, The Schomburg Center for Research in Black History, and the Auburn Avenue Research Library on African American Culture and History in Atlanta, Georgia.
